As any cultural historian would tell, probably since time immemorial young people of my age always have tried to rebel against conformity in society, especially when it comes to culture. When we reach this particular point in our lives, we usually start to think that we are sick and tired of what our parents, teachers, and society in general consider to be normal and traditional. So, as a result, many young people tend to love anything that seems to them as being rebellious. When the teachers and the parents say that something is taboo, the teenagers are often drawn to it even more, just because it’s disapproved of by mainstream society...

For the past fifty or so years, one of the most popular ways in which to express such youthful rebellion was through music, especially that which often contains song-lyrics of somewhat controversial content. I don’t know if it was like this also, say, 200 years ago, when Mozart and other great composers were creating music (which is considered classic today) what kind of rebellious music young people wanted to listen to at that time. But, today, rebellious music is definitely a very important part of our young lives. I don’t want to go too far back into history, so I should limit my observations only to modern times, particularly the later part of the 20th century, when Elvis Presley or The Beatles perhaps started something that could really be called a revolution in music...

Our parents grew up listening to all these new kinds of music, so the musical “revolution” has been going on for a while. But, honestly, I don’t know if I could say that what started in the sixties, all that rebellion, has had any positive impact on people’s lives. Quite the contrary, I think that all the degeneracy that we are observing today had its roots in those turmoilous times. Since I myself wasn’t alive during that time, I can’t really tell my own personal opinion about how it was, but I really don’t like its rotten fruits that we are tasting today... It all stinks to me, so, accordingly, I don’t really have any positive opinions, whatsoever, about the 1960s. Sure, there was quite a lot of rebellion then and the young generation of the time was breaking many taboos. But, was there any positive meaning in it? I don’t think so. All those silly hippies and their sickly drug-induced gospel of “turn on, tune in and drop out” seem truly degenerate to me… Even when I just think about them, I can practically feel the bad odor of their “flower power” all around me. And, of course, their worship of all kinds of drugs was a truly self-destructive behavior, which I would never ever approve of. The town where I happen to live is actually sort of like a “reservation” for those who are leftover from the 1960s. Here they all are sort of frozen in time, and this town used to be the world capital of the so-called “deadheads,” whose idol was now-defunct hippie band Grateful Dead. My parents told how it was when the band used to come to our town to play; it was enough to take a walk in the area around the stadium where they were playing and one could easily get drugged for the rest of the day just from the marijuana smoke floating in air in thick clouds. So, I know what I’m talking about. I can actually still see a lot of them here...

Anyways, when all those hippies and “deadheads” elsewhere pretty much evaporated in a cloud of their marijuana smoke, the torch was carried on by the even more bizarre “rastas”. Those weirdos, with several pounds of tangled lice-habitat on their heads, seem to me like something out of a post-apocalyptic science fiction movie (sort of like those mutants in “Battlefield Earth.”)

Now, regarding the music of those days, well, I am really not into such “oldie” bands, although some people consider The Beatles and The Rolling Stones as “essentials” for any person who likes modern music. While those musicians, no doubt, were quite avant-garde for their day, most of their ideas seem silly and far from being truly rebellious. And even at the time when they were at the height of their supposed “rebellion,” most of what they did and said was nothing but hypocrisy, to put it mildly. Typical of their thinking were the ideas of John Lennon, one of the Beatles, whose famous song “Imagine,” had been digested without true comprehension by hundreds of millions of misty-eyed teenagers and young adults worldwide. Lennon asked those enjoying his stupid song to imagine a world where there were “no countries,” “no nations,” everyone “living for today,” and the world “as one”… A very poisonous message, indeed! Exactly what we hear today from the mongers of the New World Order — the ideas of globalism and racial mixing. But, Lennon himself was also a shameless liar and most of his ardent fans simply failed to recognize one glaring and essentially hypocritical inconsistency between the words and the life of this much-acclaimed “troubadour rebel.” Lennon, who sang about a new world with no private possessions, left to his no-less-kooky wife an estate valued at a staggering $250 million!

OK, enough about the sixties. I don’t think that teenage girls throwing underwear at a stage can be considered, in any sense, as a meaningful rebellion against anything. It’s as silly, and even sick, as it can get... Nevertheless, there were some pretty good rock bands that started their career at that time, like, for example, Pink Floyd or Jethro Tull. Not that I myself at all enjoy these “oldies,” but they were part of my parent’s generation and they’re nice enough, not too bad... At least they did no harm to anything or anyone.

Unfortunately, nowadays, many teenage “rebels” choose something that is completely different, very bad, and, in my opinion, absolutely the wrong path of “rebellion.” Many seem to think that by listening to such modern creations as, for example, so-called hip-hop (if one could possibly call it music at all), they would appear oh-so-rebellious and would shock society. But, the reality is, that hip-hop is nothing but the newest fad that is being spewed by those who control the mainstream entertainment media. It’s being imposed on the white youth of today by the media, controlled by our enemies, who, obviously, never promote healthy entertainment. Instead, they push the filthiest things imaginable, such as those monkey-barking savages and their hip-hop anti-culture in general, both of which actually are the top-selling products of mainstream entertainment industry nowadays, with some performers reaching absolute stardom, with platinum-selling albums and even Grammy, Oscar, and other prestigious awards.

And, however revolting much of this “music” may sound to the older generations — even among its promoters themselves — it reaches the MTV-viewing young generation of today in a way that most books, movies, and other music does not. The sorts of things and the kinds of “music” (hip-hop being the worst) that white youth see on television today are of a truly destructive and degenerative influence.

As far as I know, hip-hop originally was once exclusively the self-expression of urban black and mestizo youth, most of them being members of criminal gangs in New York, Los Angeles, Detroit, and other big American cities. And, I would say, I don’t really care what kind of sounds they listen too. I think that their “music” was simply a mirror of their lives and their behavior. I wouldn’t have any objection to it as long as I myself wasn’t forced by “diversity” mongers to listen to them, or simply see them around. But, later on, it was picked up by those “merchants of cool” who decide what young people everywhere should listen to, think about, dress like, and who to imitate. They are music industry bosses such as Sumner Redstone, and the Bronfman Family. And, today, unfortunately, it is rapidly becoming almost the dominant music also among white youth around the world. Hip-hop sounds can now be heard anywhere and are an intrusive assault on the ears of those unlucky as to sit close to a “ghetto blaster” in a public area, or to stop at a traffic light next to a car blaring the filth loud enough for the whole block to hear...

Even worse than such “music,” is the lifestyle itself that hip-hop “culture” promotes. Oftentimes, those so-called “rap music” stars regularly engage in criminal violence, and they glorify their criminal exploits to maximize their appeal to impressionable young people, who are often unable to recognize the difference between cowardly viciousness and genuine bravery. Such young imbeciles adopt the mentality of the criminal element in general (the black criminal element in particular) to whom cruelty and brutality are desirable qualities possessed by the “cool” and the “baaaad.”

Now rap “music” has become the latest cultural commodity to titillate white audiences. Not only has this filth become increasingly popular among immature white kids, but its characteristics have infiltrated also numerous aspects of mainstream youth culture, including fashions, movies, and even way of speaking. Clearly, even beyond music, the cultural impact of the hip-hop plague is all-pervasive. For example, now, on almost every street corner, you can spot a representative of the newest “cultural” phenomenon — the so-called “wigger.” Those I hate most of all! This “subculture” is now especially widespread among suburban white youth who are so enamored of black criminality that they actually dress in same clothes as black gang members, they talk like black gangers, and would be willing to do anything else that black gangsters are likely to do, including obscene cursing, violence, drugs, and, of course, listening to “music” like “gangsta rap.”

OK, enough about total filth...

Of course, even today not all youngsters are drawn to these worst aspects of youth culture. Not all want to be rebellious. Many fit just fine into mainstream trends. So, while I feel real revulsion at rap “music” which is obscene beyond belief, I can’t say that I have the same feeling about, for example, what is generally called pop music. If some simple-minded kids actually enjoy listening to their “pop stars” — such as Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Hilary Duff, elder-bimbo Madonna, or whatever bubblegum-popper is “cool” nowadays — let them do as they want. In my opinion, all that silly pop music (all kinds of girly- or boy-bands, as well as solo-crooners) isn’t dangerous or offensive at all. Maybe I am wrong, but I can’t really see any danger for white youth in watching and listening to some blond bimbo cavorting on stage. Sure, there is also that über-freak Michael Jackson, but he's on the run now, and pretty much irrelevant, at least for the time being... Although “pop” is also heavily pushed upon young audiences by the controlled media, it at least doesn’t always promote black lifestyles and criminal violence. It’s rather just a type of music to keep those “preppy pink tweens” happy and satisfied... Yes, it is to some kids also more or less like a drug, but, still, in my opinion, not as dangerous as filthy rap.

Anyways, I’m not writing here about mainstream trends or fashions, and, of course, rebellious music, unlike “pop”, can’t be girly and preppy. It has to be, well… rebellious. Rap “music,” as I said, isn’t rebellious, but instead is just plain destructive and poisonous.

As I understand it, punk-rock music and the punk sub-culture itself, is, indeed, quite rebellious against conformity. They can be called “rebels without a cause,” meaning they are simply rebelling in an attempt to be, or rather to look, different from mainstream. I think that when most of them don’t have very much in their heads, they just fashion their hair into a foot-high mohawk, making them look like a rooster. And so, they think this makes them oh-so-revolutionary and oh-so-non-conformist. Well, I honestly don’t want to say that all of them have a brain the size of a real rooster’s. Some of them follow various anarchist ideas for example, and that’s OK with me. But, I have to say that I definitely don’t like their music. It’s too primitive for my taste, although there’s nothing too wrong with it.

Moreover, some punks eventually splintered off of the movement and began to rather call themselves “Goths.” They look sometimes kind of weird to me, but their music is usually almost all very good, some bands are really excellent, and I must say that this is among my favorite music genres. It is the most intellectual of all music, except for classical, which they sort of “recycle” to a large extent anyways. And, there is definitely nothing about imitating blacks in this sub-culture. The goths only like to wear all-black clothing, which is fine, as long as the clothes are normal enough, not some rags, like that of the punks. And, the funny thing is, goths even try to become whiter then they already are by powdering they faces pure white, which sometimes makes them look a little sickly-pale. The way they make themselves look whiter, most of the time just makes them look like Japanese actors of Kabuki theater, especially when you add some outrageous black makeup. As for their “rebellious” ideas, well, I like their poetry, their art, and the lyrics of their songs usually are quite sophisticated. But I must say that I can’t have much sympathy for people who can’t come up with anything better then pretending that they are depressed and thusly just mope around, constantly wishing they were dead (though they probably really aren’t suicidal). This kind of “rebellion” just doesn’t make sense to me. Nothing positive can come out of it.

Oftentimes, rebellious youth are full of pent-up anger and so the music genre of heavy metal lends itself very well to expressing any kind of rage and anger. This may also be the main reason why there is no such thing as rebellious “pop” music which is, as I said, conformist by definition and having “resistance-pop” would be an oxymoron. Rebellious conformity? Can such a thing be?

Therefore, real music of rebellion tends to concentrate mainly in various sub-genres of metal that either express anger, frustration, and sometimes maybe even sadness, or those which express hope, pride, and determination. These emotions are often best expressed in music that sounds very heavy, and very loud. And it is meant to be played loud. It is warrior music. It is like the modern Viking music. Today’s world is, unfortunately, not a place where we can peacefully sit back and just put on some sweet violin music and contemplate the cosmos… This is an era in which we are being forced into a life-or-death struggle for the survival of our people, our race. And music which is heavy, music that awakens the warrior spirit within our white people, within the white youth especially, the music which stirs up berserker rages in them — is, in my opinion, good and healthy. It is a natural, instinctive response to the darkening of our world. It prepares the Aryan youth for an upcoming Ragnarok, where they would be the victors.

I myself listen to all sorts of such metal music — mostly black and gothic sub-genres of metal. You might have noticed by now that I’m very interested in Heathenism, Norse Mythology, European culture, history, and everything related to our Aryan roots. But, as you will also notice, there are only very few bands presented in this music section of my website that belong to the metal sub-genres called “Pagan metal,” “Viking metal,” NSBM (National Socialist Black Metal), or other types of what is called resistance music, like RAC (Rock Against Communism), “White Power,” and Oi!, which I also shall discuss a little later.

Why aren’t those genres presented more widely on my website?

Well, the reason is painfully simple — many of those “warrior” bands, in my opinion, don’t really play good music. I mean musically, not ideologically... This is just my personal opinion, not a “voice of authority,” of course. I know that lots of people do like that kind of music and that they really do enjoy it, but, myself, I just can’t listen to it. Not that I don’t want to, but simply because I don’t like their style, which really irritates me.

I really love the fact that songs from such metal bands as, for example, Graveland, Hate Forest, Veles, and Woodtemple, usually contain beautiful and inspiring lyrics about pure-blooded Aryan/Pagan/Viking warriors butchering Christian missionaries and bowing down to the gods: Thor or Perun or Odin. But what’s the point of these lyrics if they are “sung” in a screeching/howling vocal that makes it sound as if the singer himself is that Christian priest whose throat is being slit by a “blood-thirsty barbarian”? As if that weren’t enough, all the screaming is set in the background of moaning and groaning low-tuned distorted guitars screeching out one monotonous tune for a full 15 minutes. This is what the majority of those Pagan/Viking/NSBM bands, unfortunately, sound like. The gods are my witness that I’ve tried countless times to suffer through more than one CD gloriously titled “The Wrath of the Aryan Hordes,” or something like that. But how can a sane person survive such chaotic and awful noise?

And, definitely, I don’t even bother to talk about those black metal bands that are not Pagan-oriented at all and scream about Satan instead. So, even though I sometimes suffer through CDs of various NSBM bands just because they are heathen and patriotic, I often don’t even bother to spend time listening to such bands as, for example, Immortal, Emperor, Mayhem, Gorgoroth. Even more confusing are those bands that sometimes mix both Pagan and Satanist stuff on their CDs and sometimes have songs about the worship of Odin and the adoration of Satan together. That, as I see it, is nothing but total nonsense. Paganism and Satanism just don’t mix. It is quite a paradox that in order to be a Satanist, you have to believe in Christianity first, because Satan cannot exist without the Christian god. After all, Nordic Paganism doesn’t have any Satan. This is exclusively a Christian copyright.

Not to go off the subject, but some other types of metal, although good and of high quality, are just so annoying. More then once, while listening to some newly-acquired CD, I’ve groaned over the fact that I’ve gotten just yet another so-called “Happy Metal” album, which I can add to the rest of my 100+ collection of music that I will perhaps never listen to for a second time. You might know what I’m talking about — all those countless Power/Epic metal bands á la Stratovarius with their nauseatingly feel-good lyrics such as “I was lost, now I’m found, I have wings, I can fly, I am happy, I am free! Wheee!!!” sung in those ear-piercing high-pitched voices. OK, maybe I’m over-reacting a bit, but this is not my main point. My point here would be that those bands, no matter how annoying they sometimes are, they can really play high-quality music. Despite such monstrosities as Skylark’s or Dark Moor’s latest releases, the guys in those bands actually know how to play a guitar and most of them are pretty good. Even the vocalists can sing well enough. Quite unlike the NSBM black-metallers. So, in short, if Darkthule and Nokturnal Mortum were just clones of Sonata Arctica, except with lyrics about Vikings and Pagans, instead of dolphins, butterflies and peace in the world, they would most likely be my absolute favorite bands in the world and I’d listen to them day in and day out enjoying the patriotic and motivational choruses — “The Runes which wrote my path of life / The Gods look upon me, from their Golden thrones / Above their heads a bright symbol shines / The four wings of the Sun / The ancient Aryan sign / Wotan rises his shield / To protect me from the shine.” But, unfortunately, “Chronicles of Pagan Steel” and all its fellow releases are absolutely un-listenable… well, at least for me...

Sure, there are some really good Pagan/Viking bands such as Bathory, Thyrfing, Moonsorrow, Therion, Enslaved, Amon Amarth and even the German power metal band Wizard, whose CD “Odin” is one of the best I’ve ever heard. But these bands are in a minority and they are not as nationalistic and ferociously heathen as many of those “underground” NSBM bands you can read about on www.thepaganfront.com. For example, I recently noticed a CD by Veles with the title “Black Hateful Metal” Unfortunately, knowing Veles’ music all too well, I didn’t even bother to try and listen to it again now, because I now know beforehand what the CD would probably sound like… A more precise title for the CD should be “Raw Noisy Black Hateful Aggresive Primitive Metal...” (although one review that I read praised this album as “making anthems to the darkness in man that are appealing, soft and comforting, like the idea of death after hypothermia takes effect...”) I don’t doubt that many people really like this sort of music, but, as I already said, I would like it as well if only there was some actual music in it. Those bands have the right materials — great ideas, good lyrics... All they need to add is some normal music, and I’d be really happy.

But, well, enough about metal. I don’t want to force my opinion down other people’s throats and pretend that I’m the highest authority on what other people should listen to. To me, as long they don’t listen to rap, everything else is OK. But, I promised to talk a bit about other rebellious music types that don’t exactly fit into the metal genre. Let’s talk first about what is called “resistance” or “White Power” music.

Many skinhead bands — the so-called Oi! bands — play music that could be described similarly as what I said about NSBM bands, except that most Oi! bands don’t scream as if they were in the middle of a bout of self-torture. Oi!, a branch of punk, is simply as primitive as it can possibly get, almost unbelievably so. Somehow, it seems to me, that the skinheads who play resistance music are maybe of a lower capability level then those black-metal Pagans and their music. Well, I don’t want to be judgmental, but tattooing a swastika on your forehead and having drunken homicidal rages, isn’t my idea how a Aryan warrior should be. Their shaved heads actually remind me more of Buddhist monks, rather then ancient Vikings. But definitely not their behavior and attitude…

The Oi! CDs are usually of awful garage-sound quality, the music is terrible (it’s almost as if they were completely drunk while playing their un-tuned guitars), and the really bad vocals are often completely uncoordinated to the music. I won’t even start to mention those so-called “hardcore/hatecore” bands that in some cases are, in my opinion, not really better then even rap. Of those who call themselves “hatecore,” “hardcore,” or whatever, not just their music sounds as ugly as it can get, but also their “lyrics” are, in my opinion, not much better then those of gangsta rap. The only difference is that these white musicians bark on stage “kill the nigger” and the rappers bark “kill the whitey.” So, I don’t see much of a difference between the “hatecore” skinheads and the monkey-rappers. I think that this kind of “music” makes no sense at all and it only keeps all the Wiesels and Wiesenthals happy and well-fed. It gives a lot of reasons for all those professional “hate fighters,” such as notorious ADL or Southern Poverty Center, to scream on each corner that white nationalists are oh-so-hateful. I don’t want to have anything to do with such “music.”

Anyways, most of those guys usually sound like they first picked up some beaten-up guitar from a second-hand store two days previous to recording, without even bothering to learn how to play first. But, unfortunately, it seems that many “white power” bands employ this awful style at least to some extent.

Nevertheless, there are some pretty good European bands, such as the Swedish Ultima Thule. Unfortunately I can’t understand what they’re singing about, because I don’t know Swedish language. However, I really like it when white-resistance bands sing in their native languages, because it’s much more natural and patriotic. For example, the Lithuanian band Obtest sings only in Lithuanian, and there are several excellent Slavic bands, particularly Butterfly Temple, Pagan Reign, and Arkona, that sing all their songs in Russian. All these bands are awesome, because they aren’t really like NSBM or Oi!. They’re more folky, with the vocals often sung in a typical Russian folk style. The added plus is that these bands are very pagan and this makes them some of the best on the scene.

Anyways, back to Oi!. It is, no doubt, at least a little better then NSBM. At least you can actually hear and understand what they’re singing about. However, still, they are in some cases musically even more primitive then the most “grim and necro” black metal act. Sometimes, all the songs on an Oi! music album sound exactly as the one before it, and have this annoying punk-ish guitar riff that repeats itself over and over again. As for the vocals, they can either be really raw, choking, and abrasive, or just plain out-of-tune. So, I don’t care if they have really cool song lyrics about racial consciousness and the power of the white race, but if I have to listen to music that is worse than that of a high-school garage-band, well… To be blunt, I don’t give a damn of what they sing about.

As you can see throughout my website, I’m a big fan of all sorts of poetry, and I do consider song lyrics to be a form of poetry. As with any kind of poetry, when someone is reciting it, I want to hear it clearly and understand what is being said. Can I understand the poetry that NSBM bands “sing”? No. Oi! bands? Sort of, but not always, especially if their vocalist is choking on his own tongue. Look at it this way: if you can’t literally sing along to the chorus of the song without tearing your throat up in attempt to sound like Nattefrost, well then, there is something clearly wrong with the music.

But, I’ve yet forgotten to mention another genre of music that also incorporates nationalistic resistance and pagan themes into its songs. This genre is usually called Dark Folk or Neo-Folk.

Even though I’m not the hugest fan of Dark Folk (I find it sometimes to be a little boring and, honestly, too slow for my liking), but their music is almost always very beautiful, melancholic, and, well, it’s real music. Maybe because it usually doesn’t have electric guitars or drums, but almost all Dark Folk bands are perfectly listenable, with the lyrics most often recited in a very clear and sometimes even very theatrical voice. So, although this is a genre that I’m not really into, it’s my only alternative for truly nationalistic music that is actually “music” and not just chaotic noise. This sort of folk music usually attracts less aggressive and often much more intellectual audiences, rather then angry rebels. My dad likes bands such as Death in June, Sol Invictus, Fire+Ice, and he likes to listen to them really loud, so I know what I’m talking about…

I would like to add that I sometimes enjoy also listening to music that is not necessarily “rebellious”. For example, from time to time I listen to real natural folk music of various nations, but only when it has been a little modernized. I definitely like most Scandinavian folk groups, such as Gjallarhorn or Hagalaz Runedance, and, of course, being myself a Lithuanian, I also like Lithuanian folk-groups, especially Atalyja and Kulgrinda. But I also have respect and appreciation for any purely national music that is traditional and expresses that nation’s culture. I kind of like Indian music, both those Indians from India and also American Indians, especially that pan-pipe-music from South America. I do like Mediterranean music, also some Middle Eastern music. And, as strange as it sound, yes, I even listen sometimes to Jewish folk music, which, in my opinion, is really nice. And, finally, when I get bored of all the gothic, metal, and folk music, I can switch on some old German military marches, which are best listened to in the background of the film “The Triumph of the Will.” Since this really lifts my spirits, listening to German marches while watching the film has become not only mine, but my whole family’s tradition, something we do every New Year Night.

OK, that’s about all I can say. But, I’m not exactly quite done yet. There are still a few things to mention.

I would like to point out that those NSBM and Oi! musicians that I’ve been talking about, often, in my view, have a little bit too high opinions of their capabilities. I’m sure that some of them are perfectly aware that they can neither sing nor play guitar (unless they are totally tone-deaf) but they still seem to think that being in a band makes them “all that and more.” Well, I don’t want to be too judgmental about abilities of others, so, take me as an example. I’ve tried hard to learn to play the piano for almost ten years, but, unfortunately, I’m a lost cause… So, I would never dare to say that just because I can read sheet music and peck out a simple tune, it makes me worthy enough to join a band. Sure, I can play something black metallish… no talent needed. All I’d really have to do is bang the keys with my fists and scream along with the rest of the band. Voila — trOO kvlt black metal!

Now, I have a cousin in Lithuania who is a professional singer with a voice that can shake walls (kind of like Agnete Kirkevaag from Madder Mortem). As if that weren’t enough, she can sit down at the piano or grab a guitar and compose a tune in several seconds. Myself, well, I can’t do what she does, regardless of how much I would like to... Of course, as I just said, I can scream and growl and screech as loud as you want (and I’m not too bad at it, if I say so myself), but that would never be considered good music. Therefore, knowing my abilities and my limitations, I try to express myself in other ways that don’t require any musical talent that I obviously don’t have anyways. So, I think that many of those musicians that I’ve been rambling on about here should follow my example and just forget about creating music. Sorry boys, music is just not for you. Instead try a career in poetry-writing (since you’re already pretty good at it, judging by your song lyrics), or art, or, if you can, make a website for some other band that can actually play. Being rebellious doesn’t necessarily equal being a musician.

Although it may have seemed a bit like I was cruelly criticizing all the bands I’ve mentioned so far, this wasn’t my true intention. I am only criticizing their lack of talent in music, and not their goals, ideas, and ideals. I avidly support the various bands’ attempts to create music that would rebel against the degeneracy of the modern mainstream “culture.” Unfortunately, very few among them have actually succeeded in creating something worthwhile.

OK, now you can go back to the first page of band links and explore some of my favorites.
