In ancient Lithuania, in a grassy glade deep in a dark forest, surrounded by majestic oaks, stood a heathen temple — the home of the white-dressed maidens who cared for the Undying Fire, protecting it from the forces of nature... Their sacred duty was to guard the Eternal Flame, which was believed to be the connection with the world of the ancestors who continued to live on in its light... These were the Vaidilutės — pagan priestesses — the sentinels of the Fire of the Gods... In the Lithuanian language Vaidilutė means fire priestess, the equivalent of the Vestals of Ancient Rome. One of the most important reasons why I created this website is that I wanted people who are interested in everything Aryan, European, Nordic, pagan, to find here information and links without having to go through the trouble of search engines. The Internet these days, unfortunately, is exploding over the top with commercial ads and without a very good pop-up killer you are doomed... I’ve compiled a list of some interesting sites from all over the Web and now I’ve scattered links to them all throughout this website. I chose Vaidilutė for the name of my website because I myself feel somewhat like a Vaidilutė, the guardian of an ancient flame that could possibly light the way for our people out of the darkness of the modern world and into the light of the traditions of our ancestors... The history of this website began quite a long time ago, when I was only about 6 years old. My father back then had just made our family’s first homepage on the Internet, and he also promised to make me a website of my own. A few years passed, together we collected many animated kittens and balloons, but no website ever materialized... More years passed, but still no website... Finally, I got impatient of waiting and decided to do it all by myself. My dad passed on to me his knowledge of HTML, and I got started. I already had a theme in mind — something pagan, perhaps with runic decorations... So, all the animated kittens turned out to be useless after all... In fact, many of the pictures on this website I created myself with PhotoShop, and PaintShop, and some other computer art software. After a while, when I was almost done with the design, I got interested also in Java scripts and other such fancy stuff. Much anger and time was wasted until I finally mastered how to use even the simplest scripts, but all was not in vain...
Finally, after long last, it is done! I had finished this website, with much help and support from my father, but nevertheless, on my own. I hope you will find my website interesting and enjoy your visit here. Myself, I will try to improve and update this website as often as possible, so that every time you visit you would find something new. Now, last but not least, it has to be also mentioned that the artwork on these pages is based on paintings by the Russian artists Boris Olshansky and Konstantin Vasilev. The music that you just heard was “Sonata In C Minor For The Harp: Movement 2,” by the Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pescetti.
WARNING: This website is very graphic intensive and, if your internet connection is less then DSL, some pages may take a while to load. Please wait, and your patience will be rewarded. For best viewing, your monitor’s resolution must be set to 1024x768. Otherwise, my designs may fall apart... Also if you are using something weird, like a Macintosh computer, then it’s quite possible that you won’t be able to see anything at all... I’m sorry, but I can’t really please everyone... |
