When I have to find some materials for my history studies, I usually prefer using books (especially old encyclopedias), but I also find a lot of information on the Internet. There are hundreds or even thousands of quite informative websites made by various museums, university professors, or simply individuals passionate about world history.
The most interesting history for me is that of the Ancient World. I think it is especially intriguing to read about ancient EGYPT, about classic GREECE and ROME. Among the civilizations that interest me most were also those of the MIDDLE EAST, such as MESOPOTAMIA.
Because I am fascinated by the HISTORY OF THE ARYAN RACE, not only our European history, but the history of ANCIENT INDIA as well is one of the most important subjects on the list of my studies.
Another very interesting culture was that of the Celts. For this reason I’ve searched for some good material on the Internet and at long last I’ve found the website which is called “ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE CELTS,” and, yes, it has information on every Celtic topic you could possibly think of.
Other recommended websites about ancient cultures are these

I’ve also collected some good links about important kings, leaders, and heroes throughout history. People that especially were significant in the history of the world are JULIUS CEASAR, the great Roman dictator,
ALEXANDER THE GREAT, who conquered most of the known world during his time, CHARLEMAGNE, the famous king of the Franks, JOAN OF ARC, the girl who saved France from the English, and WILLIAM WALLACE, who fought for the freedom of Scotland. From more recent times – NAPOLEON BONAPARTE, the French military leader and emperor. I also found a website about the FRENCH REVOLUTION, which happened before Napoleon’s rise to power.
After the Ancient World my favorite subject is the MIDDLE AGES. I have found interesting websites about BYZANTIUM, and such significant event as the battle of HASTINGS, which happened in the year 1066.
Following the Middle Ages there was the RENAISSANCE, a time of cultural rebirth and revolution of thought. This was the time when such great people as LEONARDO DA VINCI, the greatest genius the world has ever known, and GALILEO, the famous Italian astronomer, lived.
Although my main interest lies in ancient history, I’m also quite eager to study modern history of the XX century. The most important events of early century were WORLD WAR I and BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION.
According to capitalist media, “communism is dead”... They keep up a constant drumbeat of how bad communism is, had been, would be... Not a day goes by when Soviet Union is not somehow reviled as worse than anything one could imagine. Myself, I rather tend to disagree... In my opinion, nothing can be possibly worse than American capitalism and their so-called “liberal democracy.” While I certainly do agree that Soviet communism wasn’t really good, but when you only have to compare two bad things, then to me communism still seems as perhaps lesser of two evils.
The history of RUSSIA and especially of the SOVIET UNION is quite important to me, because for a long time Lithuania was also a part of the USSR. My both parents were actually born in the Soviet Union. Here are some very interesting websites, but be aware, they all are in Russian only. Here are links about Soviet Art, about Soviet Music, and the Soviet National Anthem
And here are links to some interesting websites dedicated to Vladimir Lenin who was undoubtedly one of the most enigmatic leaders in the Russian history. He was the most famous of all leaders of Bolshevik Revolution, the founder of Soviet communism and Soviet Union. The entire history of the Soviet Union was tied with the name of Lenin:

Another famous (or rather infamous) leader of Bolshevik Revolution in Russia was Leon Trotsky who, in my opinion, can be considered as probably the most evil human being that ever lived. He was the one who wanted to destroy Russian nation. Trotsky obviously ranks as one of the most evil monsters in history but even today, unbelievably, there are people who see him as some kind of “alternative” to Stalin.
These few websites are about Joseph Stalin — the Man of Steel — who was another leading figure in the modern history:

I tend to think that Stalin was maybe even the greatest Russian leader ever. Yes, I know that Stalin was also a cruel tyrant, but he saved Russia from Trotsky...
The central problem with the critics of Stalin is that, in my opinion, they do not really understand the historical time period he lived in and the real-world choices that actually existed. I think, whilst the terror was undoubtedly horrific, it does not overshadow the Soviet Union’s great progress achieved under leadership of Stalin. I am not trying to justify Stalin’s crimes, but, love him or hate him, because of him the Russians accomplished in just a few decades what took other nations many centuries to do. Stalin’s merits and mistakes are matters of historical, objective reality. I would recommend Joseph Stalin Internet Library and also “Another view of Stalin,” which is on-line book written by Ludo Martens. It is an interesting factual analysis of Stalinism and anti-Stalinism from a pro-Stalinist viewpoint... Most truly good websites about Stalin are exclusively in Russian. “Za Stalina!” is probably the best of the Russian websites about him.
The most important event in later XX century’s history, of course, was World War II. So, I’ve collected many links about this subject.
History of WWII -- 1939-1945 — The goal of this site is said “to be as complete as possible about the history of WW 1939-1945.”
World War II Day-by-Day — Information about daily operations of all parts of the German Wehrmacht, uniforms, ranks, unit emblems, Orders of battle, Gliederungen and much more.
Axis History Factbook — a website with lots of information on all aspects of WWII Axis military and political history. This is a site dedicated to the history of the Third Reich and it's allies.
Feldgrau — Great website about the German military forces of the Second World War. A great combination of statistics, unit history and photos/illustrations.
Waffen-SS Order of Battle Website — This website is about the Waffen-SS, the fourth branch of WWII Germany's armed forces.
March of the Titans is an entire online book, but I've only linked to the chapter that is about the Third Reich.
Photoarchive of the Third Reich — this website has both a Third Reich photo gallery and a collection of photos of Hitler.
Das Reich — This is a military history website which provides information on some areas of WWII history.
Adolf Hitler is the one person in history that everyone loves to hate. Almost everyone holds the view that he was “absolute evil,” though very few properly justify this view. But we should try also to see the other side of history. Ever since the end of the Second World War the
name of Hitler has been recklessly invoked to drum up public support for American wars. My opinion is that if anyone should be considered being “absolute evil,” then just think what Americans did to millions of Native Indians here. That was true Genocide! Also we should always remember American president Truman who dropped A-Bomb on Japanese people at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. And, how about the Vietnam War with three million innocent people slaughtered by the Americans? In my opinion, Adolf Hitler was probably one of the most charismatic leaders in history. But Hitler was doomed when his army invaded Stalin’s Russia. Had he not done so, the Allied forces would have never had a chance to conquer Germany.
The
Hitler Historical Museum is on-line museum “devoted to the study and preservation of the world history related to Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist Party.” This is a website that has even Mein Kampf (“My Struggle”) available all of Hitler’s book to read on-line. And
here is another good historical website about the German Führer.
There is even some useful fresh information about the HOLOCAUST that can also be found on the Internet. You know, the history of the Second World War is a big and complex subject. So is the Holocaust. There are many aspects of both of these subjects which still ought to be investigated to determine where the truth is. But most of the misunderstanding that exists today is not due to the complexity of the subjects. It is often due to deliberate deception. From time immemorial, history has been written by the victors. “Woe to the vanquished,” said the ancient Romans, by which they implied not only that the vanquished may be exterminated or turned into slaves but also that the conquerors write the history of their wars; the victors take possession of the past and establish their control over the collective memory. And, as writer George Orwell said, “those who control the present control the past, and those who control the past control the future”...
